LiaF7 › @fifileigh with rosewater it isn't used here in our gastronomy. You can find this recipe in slightly different quantities of ingredients and see it more dry or more creamy. I prefer more creamy :)

LiaF7 › @Smokey2017 it is an old tradition. Even last century many were married from 16 to 20 years old. Over 20 parents would start worring they would only be aunts. Today youngsters don't get married or make that decision nearer to their 30s.
In Cuba this tradition is like a big ceremony for them. Other countries in high society at this age they do the debutante ball where daughters of wealthy people are shown to young men of wealthy families. It's to say: Hey I am available for courtship, lets keep wealth together lol. Doesn't mean they will get married at that age.

LiaF7 › Hey @ze2000 maybe some tribes in Africa think the money we spend on a wedding ceremony and cocktails and honeymoon are wrong too.
In Cuba people are poor, on this date family comes from abroad and in most cases pay all expensives. Girls feel like princesses and everyone has plenty of food to party.
Very difficult to stop a tradition that makes them so happy.

But for my knowledge the english speaking communities have a special treatment for the girls "sweet sixteen" Boys don't have a 16th special birthday.

LiaF7 › @ze2000 you are right. The whole concept is wrong for today's world. Made sense until 1930 maybe... but like I said girls feel like princesses and they don't have graduation parties so probably the closest they get to feeling like stars on one day is this.

At Quinta dos Loridos, Bombarral, Portugal you can visit  the impressive Buddha Eden - the largest oriental garden in Europe.

From Buddhas, pagodas, terracotta statues and the various carefully-placed sculptures which can be found throughout the Buddha Eden Garden , it is estimated that some 6000 tons of marble and granite were used to create this monumental work of art.

The central staircase is the focal point of the garden, where the golden Buddhas offer you a calm welcome.

At the central lake, KOI (Japanese carp) fish can be seen, and sculpted dragons rise out of the water. There is also the opportunity to see the six hundred hand-painted terracotta soldiers, each of them unique copies of those which were buried some 2,200 years ago.

The Modern and Contemporary Sculpture Garden provides a space in nature to appreciate modern art within a tranquil set¬ting. Nestled within the plants and trees are monumental works selected from the Berardo Collection by various renowned artists such as Alexander Calder, Fernando Botero, Tony Cragg, Lynn Chadwick, Allen Jones and many others. This open-air gallery has works being introduced and replaced on a regular basis giving the visitor something new and interesting to see.

The African Sculpture Garden is dedicated to the Shona people of Zimbabwe who have been hand-sculpting stone into works of art for nearly a thousand years. The Shona believe in ancestral spirits known as "Vadzimu". In their sculptures they demonstrate the unity be¬tween these two worlds, the physical and the spiritual. These incredible stone carvers hold firm to the belief that every stone has a life spirit and it is that ‘life spirit' that influences what sculpture that stone will become. It is the artist's job to "release the spirit from the stone". There are over 200 sculptures on display surrounded by the shade of a 1000 palms.

Hi, I'm Lia from Portugal , a simple person with three big passions.

Photography, non professional, but I try my best to put a soul in my photos. Since childhood I remember being in love with several types of creative and artistic expressions, and through my teens I discovered how much photography made my eyes smile. Felt the need to capture moments, tell stories with images and show my vision of the beauty that surrounded me.
It also was a way to gather my past memories since I jumped many places due to my parents work.
Guess I spent a little "fortune" before digital photography came in use.

Travelling is another passion and also makes me very happy. Travelling anywhere! Just has to be a place I've never been before. It makes me feel like I'm in another dimension and very energetic. Love to learn about new cultures and habits of other people and enrich my knowledge. Love to learn about their History. The more different it is from the Portuguese culture, the more enchanted I am. Have visited many countries and wish to visit many more.

And last but not least my passion in Genealogy. I belong to several Portuguese Genealogy groups on the internet and have some years of experience in research in this area. In some I do support for those who are just starting their tree. It is more complex than some people may think because you have to understand paleography with all it's abbreviations and archaic language and also have a sixth sense to decode some handwritings; know where to look and understand this specific type of writing in Parish Registers that are records of baptisms, marriages, and burials made by the Church. In each of these records the name of the parents and grandparents are mentioned and so are the birth dates, locations, professions and other curious notes. It is a one step up at a time research.

I have my family roots traced until 1632, and also the Family Trees of some friends very advanced. It is a "treasure hunt" somehow, and gives you a sense of happiness and togetherness every time you find an ancestor and a bit of his life's story. We find all sorts of social classes in our ancestors and so many different professional activities. Everyone has a priest, a beggar, a noble, and a farmer in their tree. Believe me!
