Crest of Rooster (Celosia)

.
Today is #purpleflowersday in tuetego, as every day one new color flower guide us, making a rainbow flowers week.

Do you know this beautiful flower than looks like a duster? Let's go to know about it.....

This plant symbolizes curiosity, due to the curious shape of its inflorescences.
The genus Celosia groups around 60 annual species from the warm regions of America, Asia and Africa.
Many hybrids used in gardening have been achieved.

It is known by the vulgar names of: celosia, crest of rooster, plume, fan, velvet.
The most common species: Celosia argentea and the varieties Celosia argentea cristata and Celosia argentea plumosa.
It is herbaceous plant belonging to the Amaranteceas family.
It is an annual plant with an erect stem, alternate leaves, lanceolate light green, reddish or violet.

The flowers of the Celosia vary the colors from yellow to orange, pink, red and white.
It is used to form curbs (dwarf and semidwarf varieties) and for cultivation in pots and planters.
Flowers from June to October.

Celosias prefer sunny places and adapt to all types of climates.
Cacti soils do not do well.
These must be rich in organic matter and have good drainage. Irrigations will be frequent in summer, monitoring the excess that can produce chlorosis.
Treat the aphid preventively.

The Celosia is multiplied by seed towards the month of March.
They will be transplanted to the final place when the seedlings reach approximately 10 cm in height.
