This is our oldest river boat race festivel in kerala it is called arumula boat race in yearly it is conducted in kerala southern west part of india held during onam festivel in august or september month the place conducted in arumula its a place name near the hindu temple
The these type long boats move in pairs to the rhythm of full-throated singing and shouting watched by an exciting crowd huge crowd from inside and outside india
These long boat we called that snake boat
In local language we called that chudan vallam
these boats are made up of wooden 100 to 138 ft in length
The construction of the boat is step by step
first select some suitable place to construct the boat
Locating a suitable tree preferably Anjili, cutting it down and bringing to the location
The snake boat the rear portion towering to a height of about 20 ft. and a long tapering front portion.
When completed it resembles a snake with its hood raised. Its hull is built of planks precisely 83 feet in length and six inches wide.
