The highest cross in the world on a mountain peak is in Romania.
.
It has a total height of 39.3 meters and an opening of the horizontal arms of about 15 meters, being located at an altitude of 2.291 meters, which made the monument, becoming a national symbol, attract thousands of visitors from the country or from abroad.
One of the Bucegi symbols, the Cross of Caraiman, is 90 years old and since it was inaugurated it has never been rehabilitated. Although many see it from the Prahova Valley, and others have climbed the mountain to see it close, few know how hard it was to be lifted, on the order of Ferdinand I.
The Road to the Commemorative Cross of the Romanian Heroes of World War I, located on the Caraiman Peak in the Bucegi Mountains, known as the "Cross on Caraiman" or "The Cross of Heroes", is one that delights the eye and can be traveled by anyone, a great degree of difficulty.
Tourists start from the Babele area, following the route marked with a red cross.
The route, the saviors say, was remarked by them this summer. As far as I can see, the tourists have only breathtaking landscapes, the spectacle of nature being a special one. I still encounter a corner flower, a plant protected by law, or a snow patch, even if it's August.
Step by step, after about two hours of walking, during which time the mountain shows its splendor, the tourist reaches the Caraiman Cross, a documentary attested from 1928.
Made of a metallic structure made of steel made by the famous Uzine and Domains Resita, the cross was inaugurated and sanctified on September 14, 1928, on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.
"The Commemorative Cross of the World Heroes of the World War I was designated in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's highest cross on a mountain peak," said the Ministry of National Defense (MApN), which at the beginning of 2016 taken over in the administration of the Caraiman Cross.
Although many of the tourists who cross the area saw the Cross and climbed Caraiman to look at it close, few know that those who initiated the construction were King Ferdinand I of Romania and Queen Mary, as a tribute to the heroes who sacrificed life in the First World War. Two years of construction continued, between 1926 and 1928.
"It was wanted to be seen from as large a distance as possible, and for that reason the site was discontinued on the main peak, 2,325 meters, of the Caraiman Massif, from where the monument could be seen only once set. The top of the 2,291 meters of the southeast slope was chosen to allow viewing the Far Cross from the Prahova valley and its surroundings, even in difficult weather conditions. "
