My best friend? My dog!

.
Are you one of those who claim that your dog is your best friend? Surely you also adhere to the phrase "when more I know men, more I love my dog".

And while some human beings give more than enough reasons to prefer dogs, among them the mistreatment that they profess to animals, it is also true that, from so much repetition, they are expressions that can end empty of content.

Dogs have been accompanying man for 40 thousand years, as the latest scientific findings seem to indicate. Much water under the bridge ran from those first wolves that were domesticated until today. Humans use and abuse dogs for both noble and despicable activities. The list is long and it is not the idea to display it here.

One day we discovered that these furry were also great as pets and thus became part of our families in a relationship that often makes us claim that they are our best friends. And we wield a number of reasons for this. For example:

Your unconditional loyalty
His permanent demonstration of affection.
They do not discriminate against us or make fun of us.
They do not judge us or question our mistakes.
They do not hold a grudge if we treat them badly sometimes.

Without wishing to contradict but to reflect, to think that a good friend should not judge or question us sounds quite self-serving. And while a dog can accompany us with his affection when we know we made a serious mistake, the ideal complement for this is the words of a faithful and great human friend to help us see what we did wrong and how to repair that damage.

And that of which we hold a grudge if we treat it badly, perhaps it has to do with the way in which a dog memorizes things. But in no way does it give us the right to mistreat it. What kind of friendship is that in which we allow ourselves to treat someone badly just because he is not spiteful?

Beyond all this, we must not forget that while the dog can be a great friend, we must never fall into the error of humanizing it and believing that it can replace the relationships we must establish with our fellow human beings. If we get to that, not only are we doing badly to ourselves, but to the little animal, which we both say we want.
