Pomegranate (Punica granatum) is a small tree or shrub of high height up to 5-8 m. In fact, the term pomegranate is the fruit, and the plant is called rhodium or rodier. It grows over an area that stretches from Iran to the Himalayas in northern India and is cultivated and naturalized throughout the Mediterranean region including the Caucasus of ancient times. It is widely cultivated in Iran, India, the dry areas of Southeast Asia, Malaya, Oriental Indies, and tropical Africa. Introduced in California by the Spanish colonists in 1769, the rodent is now grown mostly in the dry areas of California and Arizona for its commercially exploited fruit as juices of increasing popularity since 2001 [2] [3].The leaves are opposed or alternate, are glossy, narrow-elongated, entire, 3-7 cm in length and 2 cm in width. Flowers are light-red, 3 cm in diameter, with four or five petals (often more in cultivated plants). The fruit is larger than orange and smaller than grapefruit, 7-12 cm in diameter with a rounded hexagonal shape, has a thick red shell and around 600 seeds [1], showing parietal placentation. The seeds and pulp that surrounds them, called fake fruit, are edible. Some varieties have purple color.
