Fiesta da Arribada, Remembering the Discover of America

On March 1, the arrival of the caravel Pinta is commemorated at the port of Baiona with the news of the discovery of America.
In recent years there have been increased acts to remember such a historic event and for this reason the party is made to coincide with the weekend following what was until now an official holiday.

It is celebrated in the streets of the old town and the surrounding walks a medieval feast in which the handicraft products that were consumed in the fifteenth century are offered.

Musicians, jugglers, jugglers and artisans go through the streets in those days reliving that fact.
In addition, the reconstruction of the story that Martín Alonso Pinzón and his crew made of the deed of discovery to the Baiona corregidor on March 1, 1493, is staged.

The events are completed with an official ceremony in which the representatives of the municipalities of Palos de la Frontera, Santa Fe de Granada and Pornic, villas twinned with that of Baiona, participate.

Since 2015, the Fiesta de la Arribada is considered of "International Tourist Interest".

This year the Arribada has proposed to defeat the elements.
Neither "the Beast of the East" nor "Emma" nor the cyclogenesis that are so fashionable in these recent times will be able to stop the arrival of the caravel Pinta to the real villa announcing the new one of the Discovery of America.
