City of Zrenjanin

The city of Zrenjanin is one of the cities in the Republic of Serbia. It is located in AP Vojvodina and belongs to the Central Banat District. According to data from 2004, the municipality covers an area of 1324 km2 (of which 112340 ha are agricultural land and 1392 ha are forest area. The town of Zrenjanin consists of 22 settlements. According to data from 2002, the town had a population of 132051 inhabitants. from 2004. the natural increase was -4.9 ‰, and the number of employees in the municipality is 33081 people.There are 32 primary and 8 secondary schools in the city.
The Serb-majority settlements are Zrenjanin, Banatski Despotovac, Botos, Elemir, Ecka, Klek, Knicanin, Lazarevo, Lukicevo, Melenci, Orlovat, Perlez, Stajicevo, Taras, Tomasevac, Farkazdin and Centa.
The settlements with a majority Hungarian population are Lukino Selo and Mihajlovo. Jankov Most has a majority Romanian population. Aradac has a relative Serb majority while Belo Blato has a relative Slovak.
According to the 2002 census, the largest part of the population of Zrenjanin is made up of Orthodox Christians (77.28%). This is followed by Roman Catholics (12.01%), Protestants (2.13%) and others. Orthodox Christians belong to the Banat Diocese of the Serbian Orthodox Church with its center in Vrsac. Also, Zrenjanin is the center of the Zrenjanin diocese.
