Abelia
.
Abelias are a group of shrubs grown for their foliage and flowers. Plants can be deciduous, semi-evergreen or evergreen , but often do best planted against a wall for extra warmth. Flowers are smallish and tubular, are either white, pink or red, are often scented and generally are borne from late summer to autumn. Sizes range from heights of 6 feet (2m) to 20 feet (7m).
They prefer a sunny position in a drier, slightly alkaline soil. In late spring, prune to remove dead wood and in late summer they can be pruned to restrict their size if necessary. Propagate by taking soft wood cuttings in summer.
