Mars: A story

We know today Mars is an arid frozen desert and us humans have visited this planet umpteen times at least with our probes. Even now as I type there is a rover moving around on the surface of this world sending back pics to NASA on Earth. Intriguing pics are sent back daily where we can view them on social media or NASA's website or on YouTube.

Mars has always been seen as a twin of Earth both in science fiction and fact. People scour photos of Mars even now to see if any life that might there be there today. From ghost women to giant worms and crab monsters to ufos racing across the Martain sky these people see things that aren't usually there.

Mars according to scientists 4 billion years ago was an altogether different world to the one we see now. It probably had oceans, a thicker atmosphere than it does today and crucially even life. How far this life got is up for debate, however. Most think life was microbial and didn't get much further than that as the planet's oceans dried up and the atmosphere became thinner. Could this little world still harbour life? Well, scientists have learnt over the recent years that life on Earth is a lot tougher than we formally knew. Able to withstand freezing temperatures and boiling water. So with this in mind could life have clung on and adapted on Mars either living on the surface able to withstand the bombardment of ultraviolet rays or under the surface which is wetter perhaps.

it would be wonderful to think that beings had evolved on Mars and are even now slumbering in suspended animation waiting for their world to become hospitable again. Even some form of Martian animals, not just microbes or lichens or algae surviving in this fascinating world. Perhaps at this point, I am letting my imagination run wild but it's nice to think that.

Elon Musk will probably reach the red planet before NASA does with people and what happens then only God knows. I believe if any Martian life exists at all whether it be microbial or stretching the point here humanoid it should be protected from us greedy and destructive humans. We have ruined our own world and God forbid we should ruin another because that is what we do we humans we cannot help it.
