Inside a Volcano - Azores

Algar do Carvão, located in the central part of the island of Terceira, Azores, Portugal. Situated about 12 Km distance from the city of Angra do Heroismo.
A fallen asleep volcano that Man made possible for visitation. More exciting than cave exploring. An experience I will never forget.
On the 26th of January 1893, the first descent was made by Cândido Corvelo and Luis Sequeira. The second descent was made in 1934, by Didier Couto who elaborated maps of it's interior. And finally on August 18th of 1963, a group of enthusiasts called "the montanheiros" organized a descent and ever since then started building the stairs and lighting, and afterwards organizing the guided visits.
And we finally got to the bottom where we can see a portion of dark water making it look like a pool. The whole circuit was very humid with constant water drops falling on us (you can see what seems like stripes is water). But very well organised and safe.
