I dream't of Diana

.
It's been 20 years since Princess Diana died in that awful car crash in Paris along with Dodi Fayed, Henry Paul the driver. Her bodyguard survived to tell the tale and much has been written about what caused her death. Many conspiracy theories have sprung up surrounding her death from common sense to the bizarre. However, her death at first seems straight forward but there are also many loose ends which leave the cause of her death unanswered.

Her sons William and Harry carry on her legacy with various charitable causes but they will never be the maverick their mother was who utterly changed the Royal Family forever. That said the Royal Family to me are still a rather stuffy affair and can the wealth they own really be justified in this age of austerity?

When Diana died in 1997 I seemed to have a strange affinity with her for a brief moment probably just like everyone else did. Never has a member of the Royal family had so much grief poured out over them? It is unlikely we will ever see such a thing again and certainly, when the Queen goes as much as many Royalists like her I cannot see the same grief as there was over Diana.

I watched the documentary on Channel 4 about the Princes looking back on their mother's life and the brief time they knew her. I watched the other documentary on Channel 4 also which her brother Charles did not want to be shown. It showed Diana rehearsing for media appearances with a vocal coach also it added other pieces of footage of Diana, Prince Charles and the other Royals. There is another documentary on Channel 4 regarding her relationship with her stepmother which was not very conducive for either. However, the relationship grew in stature after Diana's divorce from Charles with her stepmother becoming a confidant and friend.

What I got from the Diana documentary where she was rehearsing for media appearances was that the Royal Family are a cold and medieval institution. Diana was something they did not know how to deal with and indeed Charles was often jealous of her fame.

Going back to my brief affinity with Diana since watching those documentaries that brief affinity seems to have come back into my life. I had a strange dream last night where I was in a room possibly a hotel room and Diana was there but standing inside a wardrobe. Dreams are bizarre at the best of times and I'm sure there is some reason for why I should dream this strange dream hidden in my subconscious somewhere.

Let us not forget however that Diana herself was an aristocrat and from a very wealthy family. However, unlike many aristocrats and royals, she seemed to have an affinity with the common person. She seemed to understand their suffering and if she were here now I am sure she would be campaigning many issues as she did back in the 80's and 90's.

She really was and still is a Queen of hearts.
