Hedgehog - curious facts
.
Hedgehogs are medium sized mammals. The upper, larger part of their body is covered with needles. When they feel threatened they shrink into a ball and use them for protection. They can swim, climb, even run. From early autumn they begin to prepare for hibernation. The hedgehogs falls asleep in October-November, hiding underground or in abandoned holes. It wakes up in March-April. He often dies in his sleep. When he does not hibernate, he wakes up in the evenings and starts hunting. It feeds mainly on invertebrate animals, but also on frogs, small rodents and birds, their eggs, and also on snakes whose poison does not work. It also accepts plant food - berries, acorns and others. Hedgehogs lived alone and always lonely. In the spring, for a short time, you can see 2 hedgehogs, then it's his love period. They can give birth to 2 generations per year. They reach sexual maturity at about 9-12 months. Half the hedgehogs die before one year. They live 3-4 years, but sometimes their age reaches 6-8 years. Hedgehogs are very useful because they kill snakes.
