Fantastic Russian Hamburgers

1 lb. of ground beef or a mixture of half beef and half pork
1 medium-sized potato peeled and grated
Minced onion
Chopped garlic one to two cloves
¼ cup breadcrumbs
1 or 2 eggs
Salt, pepper
1 large onion diced
1 cup boiling water
2 beef bouillon cubes

In a bowl combine the ground beef, potato, onion, garlic, bread crumbs, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix well and shape into about 6 patties.
Heat a bit of oil in a pan. Arrange the hamburgers into the pan and brown on both sides and remove. Add the sliced onion, boiling water, scraping up the browned bits and dissolve bouillon cubes. Return the hamburgers and cook 20 minutes. Serve.

Note: I have made variations which also work well. One is to also add one grated carrot to the hamburgers. Another is to fry up some well chopped lean bacon and add that to the meat to make it juicier. Finally, I have also made a sauce right in the pan and sautéed the hamburgers in the sauce. One way or another it all comes out just delicious. You can serve with just a tossed salad.
