Christmas Belen: Joyous Tradition
.
Christmas Belen, our Tradition
In our country, we have Christmas tree to display during the Christmas seasons and Santa Claus too. But they are too foreign for us. We just adapt them to let us feel the spirit of Christmas.
The Christmas tradition which seems to be practical for us is the Nativity of Jesus or Jesus' Birth. We call it in our dialect as Christmas Belen. The kids love to have that every Christmas for they partake or have the role to take like Mother Mary, Father Joseph, the shepherds, the three kings, the angels. A baby doll wrapped in a white cloth serves as the baby Jesus.
It is being presented in a tableau. Our local government this Christmas has launched a Christmas Belen contest, not a stage play but a replica of those Biblical characters that have been mentioned in the gospel of Luke and Matthew from the Bible on the birth of Jesus.
This year's winner of Christmas Belen is Barangay La Granja. It is the above photo.
