Easter of the past on the radio - Paştele de altădată la radio

.
One of the most important feasts for the Romanians, Easter, is rooted in many ancient and pagan traditions and legends.
Through the Lord's Resurrection, it is believed that for a week the gates of Heaven open for the souls held in the heavens. Crucifixion and Resurrection are the eternal connection between death and life as nature revives every spring. Popular traditions are the most varied, but in most regions of Romania there are some common elements: preparing traditional dishes that do not lack red eggs or hills on the hills.
And the radio program is one of celebrations, the morning of April 16, 1933 opens with the show "Religious hour" follows the late afternoon concerts with gramophone plates, the doctor and writer Vasile Voiculescu supports at the microphone the conference called "Easter" and at The Radio University Priest C-tin Bobulescu presents the "Christian Legends".
About the past customs of the Holy Easter we learn from the historian Constantine Gane in a radio conference held in the SRR archive: "To talk about the way the Passover was celebrated in the past, means not to say anything new, because it celebrated just like today .
A first post of 40 days - certainly better guarded than today and by more people - then a Week of Passion, with Mother and Holy Thursday, with Holy Friday, with Holy Saturday when the Savior's funeral procession was performed, with the Resurrection , which was always done to the people at 12 o'clock, and then the three Easter days with the joy that followed the entire week illuminated until Sunday of Tomah.
Yet in the high class, there were some deviations from the custom of the people at the Royal Court. First, the resurrection did not celebrate the Court at night at 12, but the next morning on Sunday. On Saturday night only the people: all the bells from the villages were dragging, and the cities were unloading the rifles, and the rumors of Bucharest and Iasi were no longer able to sleep in their taverns.
Water was rushing, washing her eyes and fingers (for there was no other toilet at that time), and only who ever saw the bathtubs and teats of our elders can figure out their cleanliness.
The lady, the ladies and the cocons joined Voda in the backyard, and all of them went with the dignity of the boyars and the ladies, to the Princely Church - to Iaşi St. Nicholas near the Court and to Bucharest - St. Anton at the Flower Market.
That was until Serban Cantacuzino who was making his Easter at the Church of the Lady on Calea Victoriei. On the altar of the church was placed the Gospel and an icon of the Resurrection. The candles were divided into the world by the Great Logofat and were given by Voda.
When the Metropolitan came out of the altar, he said, "In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, the Trinity of a being and inseparable then sings," Christ has risen "followed by the chorus. After the incense, the Metropolitan raised the gospel and brought it to the Lord for a kiss. At that moment, 12 cannons were released.
After the ceremony, Voda returned to the palace, in the living room, and climbed the throne. There everyone started to kiss his hand, boyars, jupanet, merchants, strangers.
What had not washed Voda enough in the morning, washed the people now. Two hours later, before lunch, the Great Mass began again in the Court of the Church.
Then he went to the Prince's Palace for the meal. Who was fortunate enough to be held at the Lord's table-in all cases, the High Clergy and the great boyars at work, some 80 guests-did not come out of there anymore, and almost always drunk.
Even Dimitrie Cantemir told us, and he only knows it because he was also a historian, and Lord, that the meal did not end until candles lit.
Then he put his napkin on the table and it was a sign that the feast was over. The Great Lamb gave the silver stick a blow to the earth and to this sign, all those who can stand up suddenly rise, and those who do not help their feet, raise others and take them from there.
Here I was on a saddle, and I told the truth. Christ has risen! "

...
The significance of the Easter eggs and the imitation of the Easter Eggs is presented in a microphone conference signed by the art historian Alexandru Tzigara - Samurcaş from 1932:
"The feast of the Resurrection is accompanied, after a very old tradition, by the appearance of red and soiled eggs." The rituals of the egg as a symbol of the creation of the world will be found in the history of history: the Persians, the Nordic peoples, glory The Egyptians assembled them at the spring celebrations After the withdrawal of the Nile they offered eggs in sacrifice to their gods The same rite was also practiced by the Romans Christians kept this symbol in their cult but bound him also to the mystery of the Passion.
Christianity, by optical analogy, resembled the color of the eggs with the blood shed by the Savior for the redemption of the sins of the world. In some regions of Transylvania the people believe that the red eggs imagine the stones that were cast into Jesus on the path of the ordeal. These stones, touching the Savior, turned into red eggs.
In Bucovina and Bessarabia it is said that during the crucified Savior's agony, Mary and Mary Magdalene went to persuade the rulers of the city to cease with the terrible tortures. Mary, meanwhile, had left a basket of eggs at Jesus' feet. The blood flowing out of his body reddened all the eggs in the basket. Since then, Mary and the apostles have used the habit of dividing red eggs at every feast of the Resurrection.
As for the tradition of eating Easter eggs before they are eaten, the people believe that, after the crucifixion, Pontus Pontus was invited by the city authorities to a feast and while preparing to eat an egg, someone announces that Jesus has risen. To this news, Pilate replied that he believed in the Resurrection only if the egg he had in his hand would turn red. The egg turned red, and Pilate scared to fall. Since then, Christians clash with eggs before they eat them. "
At us, the collision of eggs is a very widespread habit throughout the country, and it also lives in the Romanians outside the borders. Around Easter eggs collide, it is made between family members and friends and acquaintances. In some places it is believed that relatives who do not collide with red eggs at Easter will no longer be seen in the other world. The eggs are bloated on Easter, after leaving the Church, and keep all the holidays. I first beat the husband with his wife, parents with children, brothers and sisters with friends. The right to strike first with the egg has the man in most regions. There is a lot of belief in the collision of the eggs. So it is said that you have to collide so that you do not wander in the woods and that you will not meet the other world with those who have collided. If you happen to break the egg when you crash, you will be safe from the year and you will overcome all the maladies. "
For the well-reasoned reason that the conceived eggs are part of the ritual of the Lord's Resurrection, and as neither the prayers nor the special Easter celebrations can be changed, the red eggs that are accustomed to this occasion can not be radically altered. Caught eggs are part of the Easter ceremony or we keep them unchanged just like the ritual of the Lord's Resurrection, or we leave them. Their tradition must be respected if we want to preserve them.
The tradition still alive to our people is the following: "From the thought," without any insistence, our Romanian lay the eggs on Thursday or Good Friday. At the mouth of the wind, to lay warm, lay eggs on a clean cloth, they were first washed well, sometimes even with acrylic whey, to catch the wax and the dye.A white beeswax is melted in a grater beside the beard, and the woman with the left sticks between the big toe and the eagle, the egg standing and the finger the little one turns it in need. On the right is the pen, the cushion or the bijara as it is called by Moldova and Bukovina.
A piece of wood with a thin tube of tin, in which the melted wax is caught. The pen is stretched out in a cloth and lightly waxing on the egg leaves stripped strawberries brought, or dots said chickens, after which the most beautiful drawings will emerge. One after the other, the eggs are taken in turn, but the traces of the cone do not resemble.
The eggs thus painted, scribed or engraved are then passed into the red, most widespread paint that boiled in a new pot. If it's like the eggs remain so, that is, of a single color, called in this case the cranberry, then after it is removed from the roe, it boils down into the water where it melts and waxes. Traces of it are taken with a warm cloth.
And so where wax was, the white drawing now appears on the red bottom. Whoever wants to have annoyed or working eggs in several colors, does the following: removing the eggs from the first paint before wiping them wraps them again, that is, hiding under the new wax layer the parts that remain with the first color .

Christos a Înviat !”
