Dog's Sense of Sight

There are many false beliefs about the sense of sight in dogs, for example, that these animals see black and white. That's why, today I want to banish all those myths and talk to you about how the dogs really look.

In color

The first thing I want to tell you is that dogs do distinguish colors. Of course, it is important to bear in mind that they do it in a very different way from ours: they are not able to perceive certain combinations of colors. In fact, the tones between red and green are seen in yellow tones.

Better vision than humans in certain aspects

On the other hand, it is important that you bear in mind that dogs see better than humans in the dark, something inherited from their ancestors by the wolves, who are excellent nocturnal hunters. They are also better than us when detecting movement, so they are very effective when calculating distances of moving objects. In fact, there are studies that claim that they can detect objects moving at 800 meters.

Visual field

I also want to say that the canine visual field is different from humans. In fact, dogs find it hard to see objects at a close distance, because they are blurred. Of course, their sight reach a smaller distance than ours (four times less). As for the angle of vision, it is about 250º (that of humans is about 180º).
