Amanda Todd - death caused by online bullying

.
For those of you who are not aware. 15 year old Amanda Todd committed suicide in her own home due to cyber bullying...furthermore she also endured taunts and bullying at school. After participating in an online chat room someone urged for her to show her breasts on cam. She did.

Subsequently: Years later she had received messages from the person who had leaked her pictures onto social media; Facebook. He then proceeded to make a profile using a picture of Amanda's breasts as his profile picture. Even though Amanda moved schools she eventually acquired depression and anxiety and agoraphobia.

She received taunts at her schools she had been assaulted by a female due to Amanda being accused of being intimate with her boyfriend. Amanda Todd died at age 15 and after two failed suicide attempts one truth is finally clear. She is no longer alive because of those who bullied her to death. She was only 15 and sadly her video prior to suicide is till floating around on the web. If you have children or adolescents discourage them from showing intimate pictures of themselves to absolutey anyone.

No one can be trusted. You can also put blocks on potentia explicit websites and chat rooms that could be deemed inappropriate. Amber Todd stated in her YouTube video that she had no one and felt alone. Now she is no longer alive people persist to taunt and bully her memory. We live in a cruel, abhorrent world. She experienced depression; anxiety, agoraphobia. She was only 15, she did not deserve this.

A person had been suspected of being responsible for initially leaking Todd's pics; but this is not going to bring her back. I think anyone who does this should be tried for manslaughter. Because there needs to be tougher penalties for cyber bullies and those who commit extortion towards a young child.

Canadian police say that: it covers child pornography because Amanda was 15. I believe that the person once caught should be convicted. And consequences surrounding the further publication of her photographs that were initially leaked should result in imprisonment for 5 years.

Smokey2017 Online bullying has to stop
If hackers can hack a bank etc
Surely they can hack the computer to see who was doing the bullying and then they can be arrested and go to prison

ze2000 Same story again and again. This is an education thing, this is not just bullying to blame. First not sure why a minor has unrestricted access to the internet, then I also don't know what the f they have in their heads just to strip in front of a camera because somebody ask them to do so.

It's sad but if we keep avoiding the root cause it will never be solved: EDUCATION

I do agree that the person that cause this should be convicted though, he's guilty too.

I also think law should be changed and minors should not have access to the internet without parental controls, or smartphones.

NyishaHv I personally think that issuing harsher penalties would definitely make an impact. Also restricting children from technology? I think that's quite extremist. Also you're inferring that it was her own fault because she sent it. You're not really acknowledging the fact that she had mental ailments to begin with therefore she did it. In addition you have peer pressure. Restricting access to telecommunication doesn't make sense. As for smart phones. By contrast: the pictures were taken from a webcam. Baring in mind this could have been her mother's or father's laptop/PC it could have even been one of her friends laptops. So I think is fair to say that this was not her fault. She committed suicide as a result of cyber bullying, real life bullying and because she suffered from mental ailments. Because she is also young, she approached the situation in a naïve manner yes, but did she deserve to be extorted, humiliated and then bullied to death? No.

HazySue Online bullying is the ugly side of social media. I also agree that anyone who is caught doing so should be prosecuted to the fullest extend of the law. What a shame that a girl became so distressed that she took her life all because of someone else's idiocy.
