Prison can actually change some people for the best...

.
I am a firm believer that if someone who goes to prison can change for the best... Of course, the person's heart and mind has to be in the same place and really want to make a change. A very close friend of mine is living proof of this. My friend had a rough childhood and grew up with her grandmother, due to the fact her father was never around and her mother was on drugs and in and out of prison. Therefore, she was rebellious and angry and ended up following in her mother's footsteps eventually. She got into trouble with the police and was put on probation. However, she didn't want to follow the rules of the probation and got a probation violation and was sentenced to 7 years in prison. She could have gotten out early for good behavior, but she didn't. She ended up doing the whole 7 years in there day for day. Now, I will be honest with you, I wasn't sure if she would change. And I was very surprised to learn that that time in there actually taught her something. She came out totally different and a wonderful woman. Now she is in college and has a family of her own doing great. So, I guess her heart and mind was in the same place.... ready for a change.

Scorpio311 I think it depends on what the person is in prison for. In the case of your friend, yes i think a person can change, also because she now knows how precious her life is and to make the most of it outside jail. But there are people with a plain bad character and will only get worse. Some people also commit crimes out of desperation or mental illness. I am currently living in a house, of which the previous tenant has killed her 8 month old baby. She suffered from post-natal depression and she called the police herself before trying to commit suicide (failed). She was arrested and got three years in jail. I do not see her as a bad person though.
