English nationalism: Has its time come?

.
Many of you I suspect will not recognise the above flag unless you are familiar with English history. The White Dragon flag was the original English flag that King Harold carried where he met his defeat at Hastings.

When you think of the English flag most people will think of the Cross of St George which is fair enough. However, this flag that most of us think is as English as fish and chips was imposed on us by the Normans and post 1066 generations.

That said we have accepted The Cross of St George as the English national flag and with St Georges Day coming up this month is it time we realised there is more to this flag than football matches when the England team takes part in the World Cup, Euros, international friendlies or run up games to the World Cup or the Euros.

There are certain groups in England now like the political party The English Democrats who think English people whether you be true blooded Anglo-Saxon or just happen to be born here but consider yourself English should start thinking about our English culture and what makes us English.

We English tend to laugh at things like Morris Dancing and other peculiar English cultural things that make England and the English. To me, we should not find such things stupid or weird because we are denying the history and culture of England and laughing in the face of our ancestors.

The Scots and Welsh, for example, are proud of their traditions and do not look in disdain on their cultural traditions or symbols. Why are we English like this and how long have we been like this?

This is not meant to be racist, however, I believe people coming here from different lands have helped to water down our people and culture plus political correctness has not helped the above situation.

Although this government has made strides in English votes on English issues in Parliament parties like the English Democrats demand we have an English Parliament like the Scots, Northern Irish and Welsh have. Now with Nicola Sturgeon demanding another referendum on Scottish Independence and people like the Welsh Nationalist Party also thinking about Welsh home rule plus Brexit is it time we English thought about the future of our nation?

If the UK did break up in the future for whatever reason England is the biggest nation in the UK and could stand on its own without the others.

I think the time has come to consider our future as English people.

Borderline Well, Saint George's flag is not english, as it has been used always in a lot of countries and cities as flag, because Saint George was a Turkish-Palestinian roman centurion, but this flag of the dragon certainly is.

ze2000 If they do things right it shouldn't be an issue. I don't see the need to be nationalist at the moment, England is the epicentre of the UK and so do the others depend on it.

As long as they seal the right deals, what's the difference? Scotland is semi-inependent already so what?
