Pelister - 2601 m

Pigeons in the National Park Pelister
Pelister - the highest peak of Baba Mountain, and with its 2,601 m altitude, it is the third highest mountain peak in Macedonia. Often the name of the peak Pelister is also used as a name for the Baba Mountain itself and synonymous with the city of Bitola. Pelister is also declared a national park in 1948, it has a total area of 17,150 hectares and the geographical location of the park is 40 ° 57 'SSG and 21 ° 14' EI [1]. It covers the peak Pelister and stretches on the slopes of the Baba Mountain. The name Pelister originates from the ancient period, which is probably given by the ancient Macedonian tribes, Pelagonians and Lynkestidi, who lived directly below the mountain Baba, in this part of the Pelagonija plain. Among the people there is a legend that the name Pelister comes from the words "five leaves". Coinage white + walls = whites = Pelister is one of the possible variants of the origin of the name Pelister. It also has the opinion that the name "Pelister" is a coin from white + ister = white-ister = pelister. As an analogy, the name of the Istrian peninsula and a row of other toponyms, orons, etc. are taken. from the prehistoric, antique-Venetian period. The significance of the "ester" to this day in the Macedonian language as well as millennia has been used earlier - denotes something that has been exorcised, exited, in height, at sea, etc. As a reminder, the old name of the Danube River is also Easter!
