Zero hours: Uncertain work pattern is depressing!
.
You may remember last time I wrote about agency work and the uncertainty it brings. Well, here I am writing about another scandal in UK employment known as zero hours.
Zero hours are similar to agency work or casual work in that you never know when you will be called into work. Like agency work and casual work zero hours contracts offer you uncertain times of work as and when and if you want that kind of thing fine.
For others, however, with bills to pay etc, this pattern of working is awful and can be depressing at the best of times. When you get a week's work that's fine but when that suddenly dries up and you are left wondering when they will call you into work again it can be very disconcerting.
The government despite protests from various sources allow zero-hours contracts to keep going on despite the fact for many that type of job contract is no good for the reasons explained above.
The government probably hope with all the shenanigans of Brexit and other issues people will forget about zero hours. But the thing is it will come up again at some point and bite Theresa May on the old proverbial.
This government has been forced to back down and think again on other issues about time they did with zero hours too.
