What is 'beautiful'?
.
To define what it means to be beautiful may be something that is quite different to everyone. We've all heard of the philosophy that "beautiful is subjective" which is much similar to "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". In essence, there is the disputed view that what's beautiful is different to everyone. However some may believe in objective truths when it comes to beauty. But I find it very difficult to agree that ideas of beauty are the is the same everywhere.
Psychology has taught that "Facial symmetry" plays a big role in physical attractiveness. The more symmetrical someones face, the more aesthetically pleasing that person is presumed to be. Others may disagree and feel that someone can be uniquely attractive, and what's uniquely attractive to someone else may very well not be attractive to others.
Models, super models it's definitely dispituable that not everyone is going to find for example Gisele or Noami Campbell or even Adriana Lima attractive. Although holistically they may be deemed as very attractive, hence, their distinguished vocation and careers are heavily based on their appearance.
Nevertheless, culturally speaking in terms of subjectivity not everyone finds the slender, leggy, female attractive. Others prefer more curvaceous females, but is it solely down to taste? Psychology holds that some men are seeking to find a female that is of a healthy body weight and therefore they equate that to that woman being more child bearing than perhaps someone who is not the desired weight.
Nonetheless, in our modern society some may feel that we have gone backwards. That we have a distorted view of what beauty is because of social media, social networking, how beauty is strongly represented to us. The media is intent on portraying what appears like the 'perfect woman'. Have we gone backwards as a society in our notions of beauty? Or is it a survival instinct and in our nature be attracted to someone who is in par with our own physical appearances.
