Volcano in San Diego County (part 2) The cave

.
It took us the better part of a half day to find the "cave".

The area is within a 110 acre wild life preserve. This was just on the other side of the left side of the rim.

It's not really a cave, but an old exploratory mine, known as an "adit". This adit was used long ago as a quarry for valuable minerals.

I have tried to find out what valuable minerals they once mined in this adit but was unsuccessful. I did find old records of valuable minerals found in the area and it was never registered. I found it odd there was no information available.

The pink and rust colored rock is what the ceiling of the cave is made of. If there are any rock hounds out there that might know based on the rock, let me know.

Hope you enjoy.
