Queen Flower, or Leptospodium alpinum Cass. (Leontopodium alpinum Cass.) Is a species of herbaceous, perennial plants of the genus Leontopodium Cass., The Asteraceae family.The herb is tomato-like, 5 to 20 cm high, with inflorescences composed of the head, surrounded by numerous long braces, white-silver, woolen-hairy [1]. If in Romania the plant reaches only up to a height of maximum 20 cm, it can grow in other countries up to 50 - 80 cm. [2] The inflorescence is covered with hairy leaves, some larger and some smaller and take the form of a star. This is formed up to ten inflorescences with numerous and tiny flowers, framed by 5-15 white rackets, radially arranged, giving the whole appearance a flower. The plant is covered with velvety brush, silver, which gives it a special elegance. The flowering period is July - August.
