Sneak Peek: In the Eyes of the Beholder

.

Making steady progress in my Nanowrimo2017 novel In the Eyes of the Beholder: Here’s a small portion of what I wrote today.

“As you know Sage Wilcox was one of the victims in the mass shooting, a few weeks ago, we are just so happy to have her back with us.” Pastor Timothy said.
When the Pastor motioned for me, I settled myself beside him as he talked about what had happened. I had not expected to come in front of the church, but I did, because everyone had been so kind to welcome me back. I was not going to be rude.
“Thank you everyone.” I said. “I can’t begin to tell you how much your prayers, your kind words and the meals you bring for us mean. I appreciate you and all you have done. You have all helped to make a very difficult time more manageable. This chair is now a part of my life because the bullet damaged my spine. I have no feeling or voluntary movement below the waist, but I have learned to accept that, and embrace the fact I am alive. Over a hundred people were killed that night and hundreds more were injured, not all as blessed as I was. I would ask that you think of reaching out to others, and certainly pray. We can all pray.”
Pastor Timothy nodded “Perhaps we could set up a fund raiser.”
“But these people are not from our church.” May shouted.
“That shouldn’t matter, they suffered a great tragedy and as a Church we are called to be a light.”
