On this date in 1896, Queen Victoria (the longest reigning monarch in British history after Queen Elizabeth II) became a new ruler of the United Kingdom, surpassing her grandfather, King George III. She was only 18 years old and ruled for 63 years and 7 months.
These are some interesting facts about her:
1. She had nine children
2. Her best friend, John Brown was actually her servant
3. Barely 150 cm tall
4. She saved Princ Albert from drowning in an ice lake
5. Her real name was Alexandrina Victoria, with a nickname Drina
6. Becoming the Empress of India, she learned Hindi
7. She was a target of many assassination attempts and survived every 7 of them
8. Born fifth in the line to the throne (luckily, she made it)
9. The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde was her favourite book
10. Oversleeping type of person
