The leaves are opposed or alternate, are glossy, narrow-elongated, entire, 3-7 cm in length and 2 cm in width. Flowers are light-red, 3 cm in diameter, with four or five petals (often more in cultivated plants). The fruit is larger than orange and smaller than grapefruit, 7-12 cm in diameter with a round hexagonal shape, has a thick red shell and around 600 seeds. [1], showing parietal placentation.
