Ouija Myth or Truth?

.
The Ouija board is a simple board made of wood with the letters of the alphabet and the words "yes" and "no" marked on it. In general, the object is used as a method of necromancy to communicate with the dead or with spirits that wander the astral plane.

Although the Ouija is not very popular in some countries, it is replaced with methods such as the game of the cup (very similar to the Ouija, the board is replaced, by a table with papers cut with the letter of the alphabet and the numbers, the pointer is replaced with a glass) and the pendulum set, which work in almost the same way. Meanwhile, the participants of the game ask questions to the dead, place their fingers on the object that is guiding the visualization of the responses which "moves alone" to send messages. However, it is necessary to follow some rules and comply with a kind of ritual to invoke the spirits.

There are thousands of stories involving the use of the Ouija board, so spirit experts insist that it should not be used as a simple children's game. However, there is not much scientific research to prove or disprove these ghostly stories.

However, Hollywood loves to increase the suspense behind these "toys from beyond". If you have seen the movie "Paranormal Activity" or the classic "The Exorcist", you must know very well the consequences of playing with the dead. In addition, in 2014 the film on the Ouija, directed by Michael Bay entirely dedicated to the board, was premiered at the cinema - objects may explode when moved (sarcasm).

The rules of the game
------------------------------------

First, you must be careful to say how many or what spirits or entity you want to invite from the astral plane (especially below) can be invoked. These spirits may be of people who were killed or who lost their lives in accidents. Therefore, they may exhibit violent behavior.

Another important thing is not to make jokes or jokes while using the board or asking any questions, as this can leave the spirits angry. It is also important to ask for the entity to give proof of its existence or do something supernatural.

Ghost experts report that spirits can cheat players and find a way to enter the physical world. In case it happens, it can be very difficult to get them to return to the astral plane, which forces them to remain in our world for an indeterminate period of time.

However, experts say that it is not the ouija itself that is dangerous, since it does not invoke the spirits. Actually, they are off the board and always close to all of us. Then, if something goes wrong during the session, destroying the object may not be worth anything, because the ghosts have no connection with it.

When you are ready to finish the "game", notice the spirit, and thank him for all the answers and move the pointer on the board to say goodbye. In case you want to stay and "help a little", you should say: "Goodbye and get out!", In a firm voice.

That's not all: you have to make sure that the spirit has stopped responding, and then you can close the table. In case you do not finish the session, unexpected results can occur and even good spirits can be altered. Therefore, it is better to follow the instructions so as not to get into trouble.

Summing up the rules to play ouija
-------------------------------------------------------
.Never play alone, there must be at least 2 players
.Never allow the spirits to take the pointer of the Ouija board to the ends of the board, so that it can leave the board (it is not the same if you fall, you will see below), this is how the possessions happen .
.If the board pointer moves for all 4 sides, this means that the spirit is bad.
.We must try that the pointer does not fall, because if it falls the spirit goes away.
.If the present spirit points to number 8 repeatedly, a bad spirit is controlling the table.
.When the game is finished, it should be closed properly, because the spirit can be angry and scare the users.
.Never use it when you are sick or weak, because that makes you more vulnerable to possessions.
.Do not let the Ouija become a routine, many times the spirits try to make the users get used to it.
.Sometimes the evil spirits will try to gain your trust through lies.
.You just have to play with people you trust and be serious, you should never take it as a joke. Nor should you ask questions with irony.
.Before entering you have to ask for permission, the same when you leave.
.You should never play in places where the dead rest like cemeteries or places where there were brutal murders, this can attract dark spirits.
.Sometimes a spirit can stay to live on a board, you can stay a long time, until you decide to go.
.If the pointer of the board is made of glass, it must be cleaned before and after each session, so that no spirit can enter it. To do this, just pass the pointer over a lit candle.
.When you are not going to use the board anymore, do not throw it away like any trash, this can make the spirits go for its owner.
.You should never lend your board to other people.
.Never burn a Ouija board, because if you do it there will be a manifestation of the table.. After the demonstration, you will have less than 36 hours to live.
.There is only one way to get rid of an Ouija board. First you have to break it into 7 pieces, then you have to throw holy water, and finally burn it.
.If we place a pure silver coin next to the table, the evil spirits will be unable to maintain contact.
.Never leave the pointer on the table, since the spirit can take the pointer on the board and be free.
.Sometimes, there are spirits who are going to ask the girls to do something, when this happens, you just have to ignore that request, you should not laugh or get angry.
.And above all things, you should NEVER ask anything that is related to God or religion.

But...what science says about the Ouija board?

Although many people are afraid, according to scientists, the involuntary movement of the object used as an indicator of answers on the board does not represent any connection with the spiritual world. However, they admit that it is possible to make movements without realizing that one is performing them.

Therefore, in the table of Ouija, it is not the spirits that are moving the object, it is the very people who are holding it. This phenomenon is known as the ideomotor effect. Consisting of the influence of suggestion on involuntary and unconscious body movements.

You can check it with your own eyes by tying a weight, such as a ring or a button, on a string (preferably with more than 30 cm). Then hold the tip of the yarn with the arms stretched out in front so that the weight can swing freely. Try to keep the arm completely still. Keep in mind that the weight will begin to turn clockwise or counter-clockwise in small circles.

Do not start this movement on your own. Instead, ask yourself a question - it can be anything. Consider that the weight moves in a clockwise direction to answer "yes" and in the anti-clock to answer "no". Keep that thought in your head and, shortly, even if you try not to make any movement, the weight will start to turn and answer your questions.

Would it be magic, ghosts or tormented spirits? No, only the miracle of consciousness. There is no supernatural force working on the Ouija, there are only small movements that are making unwittingly. The chain of people allows the movement to be exaggerated, while the inertia of the weight allows it to be maintained and transformed into a complete circle.

This effect is called Chevreul's Pendulum, which was investigated by scientists in the 19th century. What happens here is that you are witnessing the movement (of the weight), but without realizing that you are responsible for it.

The same basic phenomenon corresponds to the Ouija, the game of the cup and that of the pendulum, in which a person or more holds an object and moves according to the questions.

This same effect has also been proven in a sad case of the creation of a "communication facilitator". In it, caregivers believed that they could help children with severe disabilities communicate through a keyboard. However, scientists have shown the caregivers that they were messages written by themselves unconsciously, rather than interpreting the movements of the children.

The most interesting fact about the phenomenon is what he tells us about the human mind. After all, if we can make movements without realizing it, then we should not be so sure in the execution of others about which we are fully aware that they are made by us.

In the right circumstances, you can make other people believe that they have caused something that actually comes from a totally independent reason. This is not so hard to believe, since some people think that it only started to rain because they forgot the umbrella or that some bad things only happen to them.

You can read more about it in the book "The Illusion of Conscious Will", written by psychologist Daniel Wegner. The author argues that our common sense in believing that we have control over an action is an illusion or, if you prefer, a construction. The mental processes that directly control our movements are not connected to those that understand cause and effect, explains Wegner.

The situation is not as in a command / control structure equal to what happens in a disciplined army, in which a general gives orders to the troops, who carry out the action and receive a report saying: "Sir ! It's done. The right hand went into action. " The concept is more like an organized collective: the general can transmit commands and see what happens, but he is not sure about what led to the action.

Instead, as with all people, our conscious (the general in this metaphor) needs to use some principles to discover when a movement is made by us. One of these tactics is to determine that the cause has to be consistent with the effect.

If you think: "I'm going to move my hand", and she moves, automatically your brain passes the feeling that this movement was caused by oneself. However, this principle fails when the thought is different from the effect, as happens in the Pendulum of Chevreul or in the table of Oujia.

In case you think: "I am not moving my hand", at this moment you are less susceptible to connect any small movement made by you, but with a great visual amplitude. That is, he is more vulnerable to believe that the spirits "spoke" by mysterious means than to consider that his body moved alone.

Maybe that explains the children's habit of shouting "It was not me" immediately after breaking something. They think of themselves: "I'm just going to give a little push ..." and, when the object falls off the table and it breaks, they do not feel it's something they did.

And you? Even after this scientific explanation, do you still believe in the Ouija? Have you lived a ghostly experience while playing with it, or with the game of the cup or the pendulum, or now you think that Is it all a question of the ideomotor effect?
