Synopsis
Victoria and Kenji share a secret: the scars that run through their wrists. For her, the days pass counting calories and trying to make her sister not force her to eat more than she considers enough. He lives hiding the marks of his past under tattoos and working from sunrise to sunset in a bar for rock lovers. Both are alone, isolated from the world ... Until Kenji discovers Victoria in the bathrooms of the bar where she works surrounded by a pool of blood. Everyone thinks that he has tried to commit suicide, because he suffers anorexia, because his boyfriend has just left her, because in the end it seemed inevitable. But nobody really understands it ... until then. Victoria and Kenji move at the speed of life and will inevitably end up meeting each other.
My personal opinion:
I started this book with a lot of fear, since it covered a topic that I had never been officially talked about and it is the subject of the anorexia disease, a psychological illness that causes you eating disorders until you lose body fat in the body, I was afraid because even though the book had very good reviews I did not want to read the book because with these subjects I feel somewhat uncomfortable because if it is too serious because it scares me and I spend weeks thinking about the disease and if it is unreal, that is to say that they take the disease to laugh because it would provoke anger, but the book is great written since the writer lived in the first person the Anorexia.
The story tells about Victoria, a girl who suffered from anorexia for quite some time, but who recovered and continued to live her normal life, but one day she enters a bar and tries to kill herself by cutting her veins, but Kemji, a waiter at the bar He saves her by taking her to the hospital, there Victoria's sister and tells her that she is not recovered and that she is going to sign the papers so that they can return her to the section of eating disorders, Victoria tries to convince her in all the ways that she is not sick , but there is no way, Victoria returns to her hospital life, in which she does not stop thinking about what Marcos said to her the last time they saw each other: `` Victoria, We should give ourselves some time '' Marcos, his Ex- Groom, with whom he had been for six years, who helped him out of Anorexia leaves her to go abroad to study, Victoria collapses and goes to the bar where she tries to take his life.
One negative thing about the book is that most of the book tells us about anorexia and I think that nothing happened, Victoria told us about her meals, how she hated everyone and that, despite helping us to meet the protagonist , I turned the pages and I wanted Kenji to appear, do not get me wrong, I did not want the story to be one hundred percent love, I was expecting a story of Anorexia and overcoming it, but the truth is that when you pass the first 100 pages I wanted Victoria and Kenji to exchange more than one: Thank you for saving my life and that's it.
One positive thing was to see how at the beginning of the novel we see Victoria collapsed wondering why Marcos left her and how she feels alone, despite being surrounded by people and then we see how little by little she is recovering.
I think this review can not be done objectively since I liked it and at the same time, I have never met anyone with anorexia and I have never been told about it, the most I knew about this disease was the Catalan series of `Bracelets Rojas'' in which the girl, Cristina, suffers from her and more or less give us information about her although very little and that is why in this book I realized the things that I did not know about this book.
Heart of butterfly is a book that will make you reflect and love your characters, super recommended.
