An Honesty Shop for the Locals
A couple of the islands of Batanes, Philippines had shown their trust the people in their community. They had put up a small scale business the “Honesty Coffee Shop.” The shop doesn’t have anyone to attend the locals. The usual menu provided is bread and cup noodles. It is a self-service way of consumption. In the shop, there is a cashbox installed and the customers will just drop their money there. It is up to the customer if he or she will going to pay for the goods. I hope they should do it for the sake of being honest.
This simple story can give a moral lesson to the readers of this article. Traveling is the best way to find the untouched place and know the simplicity of life. There are so many people who just trust their fellow men and believed that honesty still lingers to their souls. The complexity lifestyle is not desirable for those people who choose to be simple. That’s the reason why some people desired to live in an island or in the countryside. Because in remote areas, they can able to live without feeling worried about dishonest people.
For some reason, some people can just have white lies to others. They don’t want to hurt others’ feelings and wanted to protect them. However, it is called “dishonesty.” We cannot determine such action by just looking at them. It wasn’t like Pinocchio that grows his longer if telling a lie. “Can we be honest at all times?” I don’t think so.
