The history of Anklets..
An anklet, also called ankle chain, ankle bracelet or ankle string, is an ornament worn around the ankle. Barefoot anklets and toe rings historically have been worn for centuries by girls and women in India, where it is commonly known as payal. They have also been worn by Egyptian women since predynastic times.
In the United States both casual and more formal anklets became fashionable from the 1930s to the late twentieth century. While in western popular culture both younger men and women may wear casual leather anklets, they are popular among barefoot women. Formal anklets (of silver, gold, or beads) are used by some women as fashion jewellery. Anklets are an important piece of jewellery in Indian marriages worn along with saris.
In Ancient Egypt bracelets worn around the female ankles could tell a lot about her fortune and social status. A woman wearing a golden or silver bracelet decorated with precious stones on her ankle was obviously stating about her being a wife of a wealthy man, while the slaves or plebeians were usually wearing leather or metallic anklets or else anklets out of shells and in most cases they served as just amulets and talismans.
Negative connotations of The Anklet
In South East Asia, anklets used to be worn on both ankles and joined by a chain to limit the step. The idea was to give the effect of a ‘feminine’ short tripping step. The practice must have gone into oblivion when similar jewellery is worn by convicted criminals.
Why women wear anklets by convergence makeovers
Though considered seductive and wayward in some climes, a few still damn the stigma to rock the anklet. The debate is however on if Guys truly consider the anklet a thing of sexual appeal.
Babies And Anklets
Anklets have been worn for babies for ages. They are even today more popular with toddlers from the richest to the poorest regions of the earth. While some are worn mostly as jewelry to adorn the cute little legs others still hold a strong superstitious use of wading off evil for some strong bones in some regions. Would you wear anklets for your baby?
Left Or Right?
For years there’s been a debate as to the significance of wearing the anklet whether on the right or left leg. Some believe wearing it on the left means you are single and open to sexual relationships.
While it is also considered a symbol of a wife that is unfaithful to her husband and advertising herself to men to have an affair. This conception might have been borne out of the belief that they were a trademark sign of prostitutes in ancient Rome and Greece.
