Mexican soap operas

.
I'm having those days when I remember something from my past; nice memories or, should I say it, my old habits. My memory is usually triggered by a song or theme and, then it is. This time, I recuperated feelings towards Mexican (Spanish language) soap operas or, as they call it, telenovelas. First Croatian soap opera was Villa Maria (2004) and, it was interesting because it was new yet, Mexican soap operas were present a long time ago; in general and on my television.

First Mexican soap operas that I've personally seen were Esmeralda, Marisol, Rosa, La Usurpadora, Acapulco, cuerpo y alma; I mean, main male lead, Saúl Lisazo is 62 years old now then, Por Tu Amor and many others. Yes, all these SOs were from the 90s, perhaps their golden age.

With typical settings: "you despise me but you're mine", "I'm poor, you're rich", "I might be your half-sister or half-brother", "this is my evil twin sister or brother", "I have an awful scar", "I'm ugly and you're so pretty", "I'm blind" and, so on.

I need to confess that Amor Real pleased me cause, for a change, it was a historical SO, something completely different and it wasn't that scandalous just, "I'm married to a new man, but I still long for my previous kind lover, who turned out to be not that kind after all". Indeed, these types of tv series made our life a little bit easier; we could mock them, we could gush about handsome people, learn a Spanish word or two and other. Frankly, repeating 100 and more times the word and the city, Ciudad de México or Mexico City, you should have easily learned a name of Mexico's capital city and its pronunciation. Just saying.

My last SO was Aurora (2010 - 11) where a main female lead was frozen and unfrozen, 20 years later. We could laugh yet, this debate about freezing humans is getting really popular in the last years. Therefore, hats off and, thank you telenovelas, you can still surprise us :)
