Importance of Hand Washing
.
Hand Washing in School gains momentum not only among the students, and teachers, but also the parents and the stakeholders of the school.
Hand washing is very important for everyone especially the students in elementary. It prevents the spread or contamination of germs and it protects the students from getting sick.
After I retired as an elementary school principal, the Department of Education (DepEd) issued an order for every school in our country to adopt and implement the program on water, sanitation and health otherwise known as WinS.
The DepEd has deemed this as one of the resources for the quality of education of the students. This program is to provide every student the clean water and environment so as to attain safety and hygiene among themselves.
Every school in implementing this program has put up a washing area where the students particularly the elementary grade pupils are instructed on how to wash their hands properly with the use of hand soap, on how to use the toilet properly, among others.
Before I retired, I had set aside an area for the construction of this washing area. The school budget for its maintenance, and other operating expenses was being used. I left the school sometime in October 2016. Two months after, a DepEd order No. 10 was issued by the Secretary of Education declaring its policy aims for the comprehensive guidelines and implementation of this sanitary or health program for the students of every school.
I am so glad to know that the project I have left to the school has been properly used and has benefited much the pupils for their safety, hygiene and sanitary benefits and well-being.
