Eucalyptus, a great tree

.
Eucalyptus is earthy from Australia and Tasmania, but today it grows freely in other regions, such as the East of Indonesia. It is cultivated, however, in many other places, with China, Portugal, Spain and South Africa today the largest producers of the world. Currently, Australia has lost its leading role in the production of eucalyptus oil due to the very high costs this implies.
There are over 700 species of eucalyptus, but the best known is Eucalyptus Globulus, the main source for eucalyptus oil. Eucalyptus is part of the Myrtaceae family and is grown both for its hardwood and for the leaves from which the essential oil is obtained. These trees grow very fast, some of them reach a height of 140 meters, have deep and branched roots and well-encrusted seeds, and thus they even withstand forest fires, being the first trees to resurrect after a devastating fire. They are also grown because they reduce soil moisture, where they grow. Their leaves are toxic, only the koala bear consumes them, but only from one species of eucalyptus.
