1964 Summer Olympic Games

.
On this date in 1964, Japan, Tokyo was a host of The Summer Olympics. Emperor Hirohito opened the 18th Olympic Games and, yes, he's still alive.

Interesting is that Summer Olympics were held in October and the reason lies in summer's humidity and September's typhoon season which is really inconvenient in Japan.

Historically mentioning, Tokyo should have been a host of 1940 Summer Olympics but, the World War II and Japan occupying China meant no Olympics at all that year.

Also, these were the first games that were telecasted internationally, without taping or flying overseas. Involving Japan, the first bullet train was launched during Olympics, connecting Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka.

This is a really symbolic date cause, the next year, Japan, Tokyo is again a host of Olympics just, this time, the Winter ones. Who knows what surprises they are hiding this time :)
