Mr Sunshine and other things

.
Another Korean drama has finished; my third one this year. After watching about 40 Korean dramas since late 2016, I guess this year I wanted something more authentic, different and maybe of shorter running. Yes, the last one is impossible. Watching 13 or, in this case, 24 episodes, maximum episode's running is still 1,5 hours long. After funny drama "I'm Not a Robot" and a social and realistic drama, "My Mister" and, even though I don't like historical Korean dramas, I opted for this one. One of the reasons was, it was written by a same writer who wrote "Goblin", my dearest Korean drama.

It's true, there is hardly a single Korean drama which doesn't mention Joseon (previous name of Korea and the longest historical era of Korea).

Indeed, previous historical dramas were or stayed more romantic than historical but, this, this caught my attention in several things. I've never encountered a drama where we could hear three languages; American English, Japanese and (old) Korean. Just like that, even 3 main male actors belonged to those countries. Ah, there were a lot of bromance moments for these three and, surprisingly, or not, they all loved the same woman.

Our main character was a poor Korean who emigrated to America and became a prestigious American soldier who got assigned to stay in Korea. Korean, who was a nobility, stayed Korean and, the last one was also Korean, but he emigrated to Japan to make a better life and came back talking in Japanese and Korean. Also, he was a samurai (I cheered for him). Intriguing to watch as well was how social differences were shown. From the lowest one to the highest one. As for our main female lead, she might have looked too proud but, she was a bad ass. Especially, when we found out she can shoot from a weapon.

I don't want to get into full details (and bored you) so, I'm just going to say that it was a really interesting drama; maybe a little bit dramatic now and then yet, as a history lover, it was great to see this era of Korea from 1900 - 1905, when it was first threatened, then occupied by Japan.

Other Korean dramas, that I found entertaining are:

- You Who Came From The Stars (about aliens and celebrities)
- The Master's Sun (about funny men and women who see ghosts)
- One Sunny Day (when you get robbed but you meet someone new)
- High End Crush (about interesting first loves; very funny)
- Goblin (my favourite fantasy drama about ghosts, guardians and grim reapers)

Enjoy!
