Voronet Monastery
.
The Voronet Monastery is 5 km away from Gura Humorului and 36 km from Campulung Moldovenesc. Founded by Stefan cel Mare (1488), the building is famous for the "blue of Voronet" - considered by unique specialists in the world and known as Rubens' red or Veronese green.
In his chronicle, Ion Neculce writes: "Iara Stefan-water, going from Neamt Citadel to Moldavia, marries Voronet, where a father and a father, named Daniil, live, and Stefan-water battling in the door of his son the uncle rejoined their aunt to wait for Stefan-water outside until their prayer was exhausted, and after they had exhausted their prayer, they summoned him in the cell for Stefan-water, and they were confessed to Stefan- water to the dance, and asked Stefan-water for his sake what he will do, that he can not fight with the Turks: worship the country with the Turks, and the aunt said not to worship it, the war is his , only after you have succeeded, to make a monastery there in the name of Saint George, to be the patronage of the church. " In the writings above the door of the narthex it reads: "Io Stefan Voievod, from the mercy of God, the Lord of Moldavian lands, the son of Bogdan Voievod, began to build this monument in the monastery of Voronet in the name of the Saint, the great martyr and the bearer the victory of Gheorghe in 6996 on May 26, in the month of the Holy Spirit's Passover, and was completed in the same year of September 14 ".The Voronet Monastery, memorial and votive monument, has enjoyed a special attention from the beginning, both from Stefan cel Mare and from his descendants. In 1547, Metropolitan Gregory Rosca built the closed porch from the west, for which he adopted an unprecedented solution to it - the western wall of the porch is a full wall without any opening. Thus, along with the lateral surfaces of the corrugated massive masses, a huge unitary screen is created, on which the well-known Last Judgment unfolds, which made the Voronet Monastery to be considered the "Sistine Chapel of the East".
The exterior painting of the Voronet monastery is due to the same Grigore Rosca. The result was exceptional: The Last Judgment occupies the entire western wall in a huge composition on five registers, unique in the art of Christianity. The scientists consider it to be the science of the decorative effect and brilliance of the polychromic, superior to the compositions of Athos and Camposato (Pisa), worthy of being joined by the Sistine Chapel of Rome, the mosaics of the Khrie glacier (Istanbul), the images of San Marco Venice), Siena, Assisi, Orvieto. The originality of the artist consists in his courage to introduce Moldovan musical instruments (bucium, cobza), local scenery, wipes, folk costumes. The southern wall is occupied by Jesse's Tree and ancient philosophers, portraits considered masterpieces. Next to the entrance are painted St. Daniil the Sihastru and Metropolitan Gregory Rosca. On the apses, according to the landlord's rule, the Cin gathers dozens of figures in a true line. As long as it is left from the northern wall unspotted by the rain, Adam ara, Eva toarce lana, while Adam's Writer and Vaddy Vazduh are actually folk legends. The tents and part of the side belong to the 16th century.
