Sea turtle saved in Santa Maria Azores

The sea turtle was found on the 12th of May in Praia de Lobos - Anjos - , attached to a fishing gear, and was delivered to the care of the Natural Park .
The animal, measuring 38 cm 38 centimeters and weighing 5.5 kg, showed signs of high dehydration, as well as amputation and necrosis of the left front fin and various injuries caused by the fishing net.
The recovery period had the collaboration of the Naval Club and the Serviço de Desenvolvimento Agrário de Santa Maria.
Marine pollution, including abandoned fishing gear, is one of the main causes of death of marine animals, either by ingesting plastic that causes false feeding or suffocation, or by imprisoning the animal, preventing it from feeding or to breathe, as in this case.
