Doing a Good Turn
.
I remember in my elementary days that "doing a good turn daily" is the scout's slogan. Our scout master is always reminding us to good everyday and there are so many way of doing it. He gives us example like washing the dishes, feeding the dogs and the cats, cleaning the house, doing some errands, among others.
And when I read the Bible, I came across that God is good. I relate what I have been doing when I was in my elementary days then. Those things mentioned by our scout master and I did them everyday are the traits which God wants us to exempligy, meaning to follow him. I feel the inner happiness that by doing good, God is well pleased. Those doers are favored by God. He blesses them in return.
Today is Sunday. I don't expet that I could do a good turn today. After our Sunday services, my wife has suggested that we should eat outside to our favorite chicken hangout. Our son-in-law drives us to the said place. In our family service van, my wife and I are joined with our eldest son, youngest son and his wife, eldest daughter and her daughter, grandson, and our 4-year old daughter.
We order our favorite viand, a roasted chicken and some softdrinks. We're done. We're all full. We prepare to go to the van to go home when I see an elderly man at the corner of the eatery. He is done eating. He is untidy. I come over to him and greet him. He smiles and ask a money for his fare in going home. I get a coin from my pocket and give it to him. I leave him alone.
All of us are already in the van when I see the elderly man struggling to walk. I get out from the van and assist to get out from the eatery. I ask him what's wrong with him and he answers that he has a rheumatism. He could hardly take a stride for it's painful. I say to him if I could give him a lift to bring him to his home at the outskirt of the city. He grins and replies, yes.
My daughter-in-law assists him to get into the van and he sits besides my wife. While traveling I ask him how old is he. He says he is more than 77 years. We arrive to his place, a relocation area. My son-in-law and I assist him to enter to his house with his son waiting for him. We leave him and tell him to be careful next time when he wants to go out. He should have a company.
We head home with a happy heart that we have done a good turn today. #doinggoodturn #scout
