All Hallows Eve

.
It was never intended to be Halloween as such but was known as All Hallows Eve. It derives from the ancient Celtic festival known as Samhain,. Christians celebrate it as All Saints Day.

Samhain comes from a Celtic word meaning "Summer's end" and when the harvest season is done it marks the beginning of winter, This festival was celebrated around November 1. It was believed that the spirits of the dead rose up for one night and visited their loved ones.

All Saints Day honors Christian saints, It is referred to as the Solemnity of All Saints by the Roman Catholic Church. All of these previous celebrations gave the Halloween we know today its name.

Halloween derives from the old name for All Saints Day or All Hallows Eve, Halloween was first recorded in the mid-1500s. Now you know why spooks and goblins and whatnot come out to play in the dark of the night,
