Valentinus” is from the Latin word for worthy, strong or powerful

As who he was St.Valentine.
But it is not only in west this special day is celebrated for thousands of years in sub continent Asia there has been this similar ritual festival in the month of February by munipuri tribes of local people of Bangladesh. The tribe would gather together bringing their sons and daughters at the festival and the purpose is to find each other a life partner for each other half.
The ritual is a dance by the fellow tribes girls with the boys standing alone to be crowned their prince or other half as the girl finishes her dance she would finish off with picking the boy she wants as her life time partner and honour him with a flower garlands over his head and they would be married.
