Abstract:
This school-based exemplar entitled “Rainscaping: A State of the Art work of Love for Social Change” was based on the occurrence of flood of some classrooms in the Senior High School Building of Camaya-an National High School, Loboc, Bohol during heavy rains and caused disruption of classes. The subject teacher decided to let the students identify recent school problems as an ICT Project for Social Change. The groups presented the problems in a video presentation form. Then, the class decided which among of the identified problems to be addressed based on its importance and urgency. The subject teacher decided on a project-based learning activity as an expected output of the Empowerment Technology subject in the semester leading to the content standard for the learners to demonstrate an understanding on how to work with peers and external public partners that advocates specific social change or cause. The main objectives of this project were: 1. To identify and gather art ideas and materials available in the community; 2. Organize materials reflective of the group’s content, theme and purpose; 3. Develop an appropriate design based on the previous knowledge acquired in the course and; 4. Identify possible items in the website which may be considered as invasion of privacy, items that could affect community norms and mores. As to the design of this project, the depth, width, and an incline flow of the water canals were measured by the students prior from their knowledge in Math and Physics subject to ensure smooth water flow. The project had undergone the three (3) phases:1.Digging the canal; 2. Designing for Rainscape and;3. Working out the canal exit passing through the concrete fence, the barangay road and finally to the ricefield. Upon completion for social change, personal insights are solicited and drawn: A. To the part of the teachers and students, interdependence and team work are very necessary to achieve the goal of the project, classroom knowledge must be also patterned in a real work in a real world; B. To the school as a whole, it does not only add beauty to its surroundings but it may serve as a model to other learning institutions in the community; C. To the part of the family, it may promote holistic/harmonious relationship to be best achieved in working as a team and; D. To the impact of the barangay as to where the school is located, this project may serve as a springboard for them to initiate like this knowing the real situation of the place during heavy rains and floods.

Title: "Rainscaping: A State of the Art Work of Love for Social Change" 
Introduction: 
“Let it pour”. Now that the ongoing project is nearly finished, everyone in the CNHS could say “let the rain pour.” 
The Senior High School Building has no more worries when big rain comes, because of the Rainscaping Project headed by the Senior High School Empowerment Technology students.
Rainscaping is a rain garden, a low-maintenance option for managing storm water runoff in our yard. It is the right landscaping in the right places which help make drainage problems go away.
Rainscaping conserve soil, enhance mental well-being, reduce watering needs, reduce air pollution and provide educational opportunities.
This project is not successful without the support of well-meaning individuals.

Stakeholders:
 LGU Loboc for the SEF allocation budget  to counterpart our DepEd /Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE) Fund, Hon. German T. Palapar for the 20 sacks of cement, Larry Maceren for the canal design and structure for Phase 1 of 3 of the project, Ariel Jimenez for his genuine advise on the choice of plants suitable for our climate and location, Dr. Marietta D.Biliran, PhD for the creative sample rainscape designs as points of reference for the teachers and students, the parents of the Grade 12 students who willingly gave their consent to send their students to school to work on Saturdays, the School Parent-Teacher Association for the P14,000.00 budget for the labor cost of the project and the CNHS Teaching and Non-Teaching Force for the moral support.

Rationale: 
	The subject teacher decided to let the students identify recent school problems as an ICT Project for Social Change. The groups presented the problems in a video presentation form. 	The subject teacher decided on the project- based learning activity as an expected outcome/output of the Empowerment Technology subject in the semester. The content standard of this ICT Project for Social Change is for the learners to demonstrate an understanding on how to work with peers and external public partners for the development of an ICT project that advocates specific social change or cause. 
	The learning objectives of this project are: 1. Identify and gather art ideas and materials available in the community; 2. Organize materials reflective of the group’s content, theme and purpose; 3. Develop an appropriate design based on the previous knowledge acquired in the course and: 4. Identify possible items in the website which may be considered as invasion of privacy, items that could affect community norms and mores.
	The class decided/chose “Rainscaping: A State-of-The-Art-Work-of-Love for Social Change"  as an ICT project for social change because of the occurrence of flood of some classrooms in the Senior High School Building during heavy rains and cause to disrupt classes. The teacher noticed some school problems but prefer students to discover and find solutions in order for them to connect their learning with the changing environment into a livable environment.

Steps taken to overcome the challenges:
The Rainscape Design

The measurements of depth and width and incline of the flow of the water canals are as follows:  Depth 8 cm,  Width 16 cm, and incline-flow of the water canals is 0.50cm  to ensure smooth water flow was computed and executed by the students with the help of their Physics and Math teachers, namely: Mrs. Maria Nancy L. Tecson and Mrs. Emalinda O. Maquindang. The students used what they learned from their Physics and Math classes, as suggested by the rainscape design consultants: Dr. Marietta D. Biliran, PhD, Mr. Larry Maceren, Mr. Ariel Jimenez and Ms. Melinda A. Abitona.

The project has three phases:

Phase 1: Digging of the canals for rainscaping to be done by the students of the Empowerment Technology subject;

Phase 2: Rainscape Designing by the students divided into three groups under the Organization and Management Class to identify personalities and leadership styles of students in a given task assigned as team;

Phase 3: Designing and working out for the canal exit passing through the concrete fence, the barangay road and finally to the ricefield areas to be done again by the students in Empowerment Technology class.
The garden design under Phase 2 was an output of the Grade 12 class in Organization and Management and was refined by the rainscape advisers: Dr. Marietta D. Biliran, PhD and Miss Melinda A. Abitona. The design of the gardens incorporated the rain water canals to make a holistic rainscape.  It was perfectly achieved by the choice of grass, flowers, pebbles, etc. The grass to be planted should not only consider one or two types: For ornamental plants, it should be suitable for all seasons so that it will always look lively and beautiful the whole year round. For flowering plants, it should be in a variety so that there are flowers to see in any type of season. The choice of plants should also be suitable for rainy and dry season.
The time spent for this innovative project should not exceed the maximum of 160 hours including Saturdays and study periods to sustain and maintain the project with the help of two expert masons. The material cost for this three-phased project as computed is P35, 560.00 to be shared by the LGU Loboc SEF, Hon. German T. Palapar and the DepEd Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE) Fund and the labor cost is P 14,000.00 and is shouldered by the Parent-Teacher Association. 
Results of the project:

With its nearest to completion for social change, personal insights are solicited and drawn. 
	To the part of the teachers and students, interdependence and team work are very necessary to achieve the goal of the project, classroom knowledge must be also patterned in a real work in a real world.
