When July hits, the West Australian outback comes to life with unique and colourful flowers, all begging to be appreciated. There are many different ways to see these beautiful wild flowers, right up until September. A personal travel manager is the best way to ensure you can stop and smell the roses.

Celebrate With Locals At A Festival

Travellers wanting to appreciate the wildflowers with a bit of background knowledge on the side should head to the Kings Park Wildflower Festival. Held annually in September, this festival boasts 1,700 different types of native species of flower and is all jam-packed into an incredibly vibrant 17 hectares of space, right in the heart of Perth. The location allows for all ages to appreciate the beautiful flowers.

Four-Wheel Drive Across The Desert

When four-wheel driving across the Australian desert, the wildflowers simply compliment the hundreds of other incredible things to see and do in that vast landscape. Mount Augustus is a great place to experience the kaleidoscope of colourful wildflowers that stretch right into the horizon. The backdrop of the famous mountain on a plain, Mount Augustus is a sight to behold. The Kalbarri National Park is another amazing drive as rolling sandy plains suddenly burst into carpets of incredible desert colour. Reds, yellows, golds and oranges are displayed through Grevilleas, Banksias and Catspaws which last from late July right up until the beginning of summer.

Hike Through The Forests

For travellers who enjoy hiking and bushwalking, there are many National Parks across Western Australia that boast wildflowers like nowhere else in the country. Fitzgerald National Park shows a breathtaking display of wildflowers that brighten the banks of rivers, soaring cliffs and rolling valleys right through spring and autumn. With up to 1,800 species of wildflowers, the Fitzgerald National Park is a botanists dream. Karijini National Park is another spectacular location with deep caverns that contrast the intricate array of colour the wildflowers spread each spring.

Picnic In A Park

Coalseam Conservation Park has for years been considered Western Australia’s wildflower capital. It is a conservation park that every year transforms into a brilliant carpet of pink, white and gold Everlastings. This is an amazing place to take the family and set up with lunch amongst the beautiful field of colours and smells. Avon Valley National Park is another unforgettable site to not only experience unique wildflowers amongst granite outcrops, trickling streams and panoramic views, but it also offers a number of shops selling local produce and ensuring lunch is as fresh as possible. Being just one hour’s drive from Perth, this National Park offers everything for a family or solo adventurer.
