Christ Blood

.
Fumaria agraria, commonly called Christ blood, among other names, is a species of herbaceous plant of the genus Fumaria of the subfamily Fumarioideae in the family Papaveraceae.

Diffuse or climbing plant, which can reach 3 m in height. The inflorescences are arranged in clusters of 14-25 flowers, generally longer than their peduncle. The bracts have a length of half to the same as that of the fruiting pedicel; the latter are erect or suberects, thickened at the apex. The sepals are 2.5-5 by 1-2 mm and are subenters. The corolla, (11) 12-16 mm long, is white, with the apex of the inner petals dark purple, but often turns completely pink. The fruit is a small globular monosperm 2.5-3 mm in diameter, very fairing, and, at maturity, with large tubercles slightly marked and apex apiculate emarginated.

It is found in hedgerows, thickets, banks, crops or gutters, on acid soil mainly in the western Mediterranean. In the Iberian Peninsula, it is scattered throughout the territory, most frequently in the southeast and southwest; also present in the Balearic Islands.
