Herăstrău Park, Bucharest, Romania

.
King Mihai I of Romania park (former Herăstrău)
This largest and most diversified park is located in the northern part of Bucharest and has an area of approximately 110 ha. of which the lake occupies 74.
Besides the lush vegetation, the park offers recreation areas such as Summer Theater, cafes, clubs, restaurants, exhibition pavilions, amusement park, sports clubs and areas where football, roller-skating and tennis can be practiced. The lake is also used for water sports and sport fishing.
Herăstrău Park was born in the early twentieth century, when King Carol I wanted to create a green space by redeveloping the marshy area on the valley of the Colentina river. This process took place between 1930 and 1935. The park was designed by landscape architects Emil Pinard and Frederich Rebhun and the alleys were drawn by architect Octav Dobrescu.
The park includes the Flora area (15 ha) where floral ornamental ensembles are located, Rose Island - designed by architect Rebhu, and it has an opening to the Village Museum and one to the park. From the beginning of June until the autumn is loaded with roses garlands, Plop Island and Japanese Garden. In the Expo Flora area there is a permanent aquarium exhibition, Herăstrău-Reef Aquarium, which includes over 300 species of fishes and over 100 species of aquatic plants.
The park hosts a variety of bird species such as grasshoppers, creeks, marshmallows, pigeons, as well as exotic species such as swans, peacocks, white calf and red geese, Carolina ducks, crab ducks, Canadian geese, geese Magellan or Mandarin ducks.
The park's cultural entrance is great, hosting in addition to the National Village Museum "Dimitrie Gusti", the Summer Theater, exhibition halls, libraries, outdoor cinema, reading chess and chess and numerous monuments historical and statues (the heads of the European Union, Centaur, Prometheus or Sleeping Nymph).
This park it is one of the largest, diversified and attractive parks in Romania and I simply love it!
