Coconuts

.
Coconuts are classified as a fibrous one-seeded drupe. A drupe is a fruit with a hard stony covering enclosing the seed. A coconut and all drupes, have three layers: the exocarp (outer layer), the mesocarp (fleshy middle layer), and the endocarp (hard, woody layer that surrounds the seed). Some scientists like to refer to the coconut as a water dispersal fruit and seed. They try to figure out where the coconut first appeared. Some believe is of Old World origin and more than likely came from the Indian Archipelago or Polynesia, others argue that the coconut is of New World origins, having migrated westward across the Pacific.
Every bit of the coconut is used. As a result, coconuts are called the “Tree of Life” and can produce drink, fiber, food, fuel, utensils, musical instruments, and much more.
Coconuts are both delicious and nutritious, and you definitely should include them in your diet if you want to stay healthy and enjoy your meals in the process.
The experts believe coconut can do the following for our health:
- protect against heart disease by increasing good cholesterol
- helps treat malnutrition because it is easy to digest and absorb
- kills disease-causing bacteria, fungi, yeasts and viruses because of the antimicrobial effects of its fatty acids
- helps diabetics by slowing sugar release into the bloodstream
- prevents strokes and brain disorders such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's
- boosts metabolism and increases energy
- prevent tooth decay - coconut oil fights bacteria responsible for tooth decay.
