Strawberries are the taste of summer, and nothing tastes as delicious as these juicy, sweet fruits!
Interesting facts about strawberries that you never knew:
- despite its name, the strawberry isn’t a true berry, it's an aggregate accessory fruit. Means that the fleshy part is derived not from the plant’s ovaries but from the the thickened part of a stem that holds the ovaries. Each apparent “seed” on the outside of the fruit is actually one of the ovaries of the flower, with a seed inside it
- there are about 200 seeds on an average strawberry
- strawberries were cultivated by the Romans as early as 200 BC. They thought they had medicinal powers and used them treat everything from depression to fainting, fever, kidney stones, bad breath and sore throats
- in medieval times, strawberries were regarded as an aphrodisiac, and a soup made of strawberries and soured cream was traditionally served to newlyweds at their wedding breakfast
- Belgium has a museum dedicated to strawberries
- 100 g serving of strawberries has just 50 calories, and with 0 g of fat
- strawberries can help whiten your teeth, it’s the fruit acids that help to remove stains
- according to Guinness World Records, the heaviest strawberry was grown in Japan. On 28 January 2015, it weighed in at 250 g
- in Sweden, strawberries are a traditional dessert served on St John’s Day
- in Greece, strawberries are usually sprinkled with sugar and then dipped in Metaxa, a famous brandy, and served as a dessert
- in Italy, strawberries have been used for various desserts and as a popular flavoring for ice cream.

RalRey The strawberry is an exotic fruit for me, although it is grown in some parts of the country, mainly in two places in the central region, which are cold climates, El Junquito and Colonia Tovar, the latter founded by German emigrants.
